Installing gnupg on Snow Leopard

It’s an increasingly un-secure environment out there. PGP helps but its bit of a bear to install and run. Using this for Mozilla’s Thunderbird.

Original install from

http://macgpg.sourceforge.net/docs/howto-build-gpg-osx.txt.asc

1. Open a terminal session.

$ curl -O ftp://ftp.gnupg.org/gcrypt/gnupg/gnupg-1.4.11.tar.gz
$ curl -O ftp://ftp.gnupg.org/gcrypt/gnupg/gnupg-1.4.11.tar.gz.sig

2. Validate the files with

$ openssl sha1 gnupg-1.4.11.tar.g

3. Unpack the files.

tar -xvf gnupg-1.4.11.tar.gz

4. Change into the directory

5. Get ready to compile for both 32 and 64 bit with

./configure CFLAGS="-arch x86_64 -arch i386" --disable-dependency-tracking --disable-asm
6. Compile
make -j2
-j2 to use both core. Replace the 2 with the total number of cores on your system
7. Then install with
sudo make install
